Offshore Strategy Conference in Stavanger
Back to listMinister of Petroleum and Energy, Ola Borten Moe, initialized the Offshore Strategy Conference in Stavanger last week.
Borten Moe mentioned the ongoing process Norwegian authorities are having with the European Commission concerning safety on offshore petroleum activities. - I am proud of what we have accomplished on the Norwegian continental shelf during the least decades, and I am committed to maintain the good and strict security regime that is established. However, the edict regulation proposed by the Commission, is not a good way to step into the future for Norway. Our biggest concern is that the proposal will impair the safety on the Norwegian shelf. We have expressed these opinions to the Commission, said Borten Moe.
After the Maccondo incident, Norwegian safety authorities had a thorough review of the investigation reports, and concluded that the cause of the accident was well-known risk factors. The risk level on the Norwegian continental shelf has not increased as a result of the incident in the Gulf of Mexico.
